Going up to the calvary hill is one of the most faithful traditions of the peregrines that visit Copacabana. Several religious ceremonies that are a fusion Catholicism and Andean rituals take placed in this hill, as a payment to the Pachamama (mother earth). For others it is a sign of purification that becomes a penitence when walking through the via crusis of the passion of the Christ. Over the hill you can have a wonderful view of the Lake. |

This is the most important building in town. Standing inside, in an extraordinary andean baroque altar you can see the Candelaria dark Madonna. Nowadays, the Church holds thousands of peregrines who come with offerings to the Sanctuary, many others come in a pilgrimage all the way from La Paz city, a display of faith an devotion on a journey of 3 days walk. |
