These are two small communities, located at the shore of Lake Titicaca, on the way to Yampupata, which was an old Incan harbor to continue to the Sun Island navigating on reed boats.
These two communities are connected by a road along the Peninsula, by which, cars and bicycles can accede. Two hours hike from Copacabana can also be an interesting experience.
People in this region besides fishing, do also farm broad beans, potatoes in many varieties, such as oca, papalisa and others, which are cultivated on the terraces. In the surroundings of Titicachi, you can still see supporting walls that probably were part of a complex of mortuary towers "Chullpares", dating from at least 1000 years ago. In the bay of Sicuani, you can see the process of construction of the reed boats, since the moment of harvesting the reeds, preparation and a complete manual construction. |
