This holly island had inspired several myths in the Incan society. Some believe that it was the refuge of the Sun and the Moon in the horrible flood days and cradle of the first Incas, Manco Kapac and Mama Ocllo. 

According to the Andean cosmovision, the Sun Island is considered the center of the Universe. The souls of the deaths converge there and come back to life.
