The colorful village of Copacabana is located at the shore of Titikaka Lake, in a warm bay of the same name. It has been a witnesses of the development of several cultures, that was established in the same territory, such as Chiripa, Tiwanakotas, Incas and Spanish.
For the culture enthusiastic, many archeological sites are available in the surroundings of the town, however the most important remains belong to the Inca culture. This important village became into the religious - political centre of the spaniards. From there, the Islands of the Lake, the entire peninsula and some other tribes were controlled. Besides of its cultural richness, Copacabana offers wonderful sunsets, the warmth of the people and a vast variety of handicrafts. Sun Island. The Sun Island is at 1 hour motorboat cruise a way from Copacabana. This holly island had inspired several myths in the Incan society. Some believe that it was the refuge of the Sun and the Moon in the horrible flood days and cradle of the first Incas, Manco Kapac and Mama Ocllo. According to the Andean cosmos vision, the Sun Island is considered the center of the Universe. The souls of the deaths converge there and come back to life
